Coach Bowden became the winningest coach in D-1 college football yesterday when sanctions were levied against Penn State and Joe Paterno.
All of Joe Pa's wins from 1998-2011 have been stripped. 111 in total. Joe Paterno went from 1st all-time to 12th in a matter of moments.
FSU legend Bobby Bowden now rests alone at the top of the college football mountain as the winningest coach in major college football history with 377 wins.
Now, Bobby has already gone on record saying that today is not a day to rejoice...
"There's no way I can celebrate that," Bowden said in a phone interview. "There's no way we can rejoice in that here because of what happened with the circumstances. Under the circumstances, we can't even cheer."
Certainly that is the answer you would expect from a class act like Bobby, and it is unquestionably the appropriate thing to say given the circumstance. However, he did just become the greatest college football coach of all time.
