The Magic Knock Down 25 Threes in Double OT Loss to Kings

On January 9th, 2009, the Orlando Magic knocked down a then franchise record-setting 23 threes in a 139-107 road victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Last season, on November 5th, 2023, the Sacramento Kings defeated the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center (now Kia Center) 126-123 in an overtime thriller.

In January of last season, the Kings knocked down a franchise record-setting 23 three-pointers in a home game against the Orlando Magic.

And finally, the Orlando Magic converted on a record-setting 25 three-pointers last night in a double overtime road loss to the Sacramento Kings. It seems that every time these franchises meet, the contest is bound to go down to the wire, extra time, and a busy night from beyond the perimeter.

The Magic were as short-handed as they have been all season long, with Markelle Fultz, Joe Ingles, and Jonathan Isaac remaining out of the rotation. Additionally, reports emerged an hour before tip-off that 6th man of the year candidate Cole Anthony would not play with a quad injury. It couldn't possibly get worse right? Guess again...

Franz Wagner would exit the game and not return after just five minutes on the court after suffering a sprained ankle in the first quarter. Shooting guard Gary Harris would add injury to insult - not returning from the halftime locker room due to a calf injury that flared up in the first half.

With the Magic being banged up, head coach Jamahl Mosley turned to the likes of Trevelin Queen, Caleb Houstan, and Chuma Okeke to support superstar Paolo Banchero who finished with a career-high 43 points.

There are no morale victories in the NBA, but setting a made three-pointers record on the second night of a back-to-back in game three-of-four of a west coast road trip as short-handed as the magic were, you walk away feeling more hopeful compared to your normal loss.
