Are UCF Fans Storming the Field? Should They?

Rumors have been swirling all over UCF Twitter regarding some potential post-game festivities pending a UCF victory over No. 15 Oklahoma State. Many have proposed that UCF fans storm the field if the Knights come out on the winning end. There are many obstacles and point of views around this matter. The most obvious question is where the Knights will win. The Cowboys are coming off a morale-boosting win over No. 9 Oklahoma at home last week, and may be on top of their game heading into Orlando. The next question presented is will UCF set preventative measures to block fans from storming the field. Should fans even try?

The most memorable storming of the field by UCF came in 2005, when a 0-3 UCF team defeated Marshall on it's home field of camping world stadium, located about 14 miles away from the campus of UCF. The win snapped a 17-game losing streak, sending Knight fans onto the field and walking out with one of the goal post. To my memory and research, there has not been another storming of the field by Knight fans following a UCF football game.

The last time a mass of UCF fans ran onto the surface to celebrate with the players came in March fo 2019. However, it wasn't on the field, it was on the court. Following a road win over No. 8 Houston, the Knights overcame No. 15 Cincinnati in the then CFE Arena located on the campus of UCF. It was the first time in program history a team had defeated two ranked opponents in the same season. The fact that the wins came in back-to-back games added a bit of excitement as you can imagine.

So would the Knights picking up their first Big 12 home win justify a storming of the field? Brandon and I discussed earlier today on In The Zone. Click the link below for the full segment.
