Offensive line: Not exactly the sexiest position on the field. But for Florida State, this has been the biggest bug-a-boo over the last 5 years. Seminole fans know how awful this line has been, its caused a lot of heartburn, a lot of frustration, and definitely hindered some success for guys like James Blackman, Jordan Travis, and McKenzie Milton.
But, we’ve now known this was a problem for years…so, can it be corrected? Is this the year FSU will finally have a sterdy and dependable o-line? Let’s take a look.
To understand where you’re going, you’ve got to know where you’ve been. FSU’s o-line reached historically bad levels under Willie Taggart, ranking in the bottom six nationally in sacks and tackles for loss allowed. And through Mike Norvell’s two seasons, FSU hasn’t finished in the top 80 in either category.
But, this year looks to be different. And it starts with Robert Scott. Scott is the 5th ranked OT among draft eligible players according to the scouts. So if that’s the guy protecting the blindside for travis, we’re off to a good start here.
The other tackle spot will be taken up by a South Carolina transfer by the name of Jaszton Tornetine. He appears to be rock solid.
Red shirt sophomore Darius Washington has lined up at every position on the offensive line during his time @ FSU, so coaches have praised his versatility…that could come in handy, and it’ll be nice for him if he can just settle in to one spot on the line. And they have a redshirt senior at the other guard spot- Dillion Gibbons.
ESPN ranked FSU’s line going into the season as “tier 2” offensive line in the conference. Might not sound great, but compared to what they were…this is a HUGE step in the right direction.
