Former FSU running back scores first TD after burying his father

Jacques Patrick is a former Timber Creek and Florida State product. He and the Tampa Bay Vipers have not enjoyed much success during the first few weeks of the XFL season. To make matters worse, Patrick had to bury his father last Friday.

Sunday night, the former Seminole responded in a big way. He scored his first rushing touchdown of the season and did not hold back his emotions.

On his dad not being there to see the touchdown, he said, "It's surreal he's not here to see it. My dad introduced me to the game so it was real tough to see that and not know he was at home watching but I know he's watching from up top. I know he's got a big smile on his face." Not only was Patrick able to score his first touchdown on the season a week after his father passed away, he and fellow running back, Deveon Smith, became the first running backs to rush for over 100 yards in the XFL this season.

The Vipers also got their first win of the season by shutting out one of the better teams in the league in the D.C. Defenders, 25-0. The defense not only pitched a shut out against one of the better teams in the league, they also kept one of the better quarterbacks in Cardale Jones in check.
